The meeting, held at the SFC Headquarters in Entebbe, aimed to discuss recent contentious media coverage related to the General.
During the visit, Ambassador Maangi expressed appreciation for the meeting opportunity. This visit was prompted by a disrespectful article published by The Standard, which the Kenyan delegation clarified was not sanctioned by the Kenyan government. They also offered an apology to General Kainerugaba for the article’s offensive nature.
The Standard later issued a formal apology acknowledging General Kainerugaba’s military career and achievements via X (formerly Twitter). In his address, General Kainerugaba underlined the importance of maintaining the historic relationship between Uganda and Kenya, emphasizing mutual respect as a cornerstone of their diplomatic ties.
The meeting concluded with a gift exchange. Ambassador Maangi presented traditional Kenyan attire and a lion sculpture, gifts from Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Charles Kahiriri. In reciprocation, General Kainerugaba offered a copy of the President’s autobiography, a tourism book on Uganda, and Ugandan coffee.
The meeting between General Kainerugaba and Ambassador Maangi coincided with diplomatic tensions spurred by a newspaper article. The Kenyan delegation clarified their government’s lack of involvement in the article’s publication, apologized, and received a reciprocal gesture of goodwill from Uganda.
