MEA Responds to Security Breach During Jaishankar’s Visit to the UK

The MEA condemned a security breach during S. Jaishankar’s UK visit, attributing it to a group of pro-Khalistan separatists. Jaishankar addressed international relations and trade issues in meetings with British leadership. The MEA stressed the need for the host government to adhere to diplomatic obligations regarding such incidents.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) addressed the recent security breach during External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to the UK. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal criticized the actions of a “small group of separatists and extremists” responsible for the incident. Demonstrations by pro-Khalistan separatists occurred outside Chatham House, where Jaishankar was attending a session titled ‘India’s rise and role in the world.’

Jaiswal stated, “We have seen the footage of a breach of security during the visit of EAM to the UK. We condemn the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists. We deplore the misuse of democratic freedoms by such elements.” He emphasized that the host government must uphold their diplomatic obligations in such instances.

During the session, Jaishankar addressed international topics, including the United States’ tariffs. He remarked, “We see a president and an administration which, in our parlance, is moving towards multipolarity, and that is something that suits India.” His comments on tariffs coincided with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Washington to discuss a bilateral trade pact.

Before the session, Jaishankar met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, delivering warm regards from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The discussion included bilateral cooperation and perspectives on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The MEA condemned the security breach during Jaishankar’s UK visit, attributing it to a small group of separatists and emphasizing the importance of democratic freedoms. Jaishankar addressed significant global issues, including tariffs and bilateral trade discussions, during his visit. Furthermore, meetings with UK leadership highlighted ongoing cooperation between India and the UK amidst international challenges.
