India Condemns Security Breach During EAM Jaishankar’s UK Visit

India has condemned a security breach involving External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in the UK, after a pro-Khalistan protester approached his motorcade. The incident took place during his visit, leading to calls for the UK government to uphold diplomatic safety standards. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the provocative actions and reiterated the need for adherence to diplomatic norms.

India has formally condemned the breach of security involving External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his visit to the UK. This incident occurred as a pro-Khalistan protester broke through a police barrier and approached the minister’s motorcade after Jaishankar’s engagement at Chatham House in London. New Delhi emphasized its expectation that the UK government fulfill its diplomatic obligations in ensuring the safety of visiting officials.

The protest took place on the second day of Jaishankar’s week-long tour, where a group of pro-Khalistan activists gathered with yellow flags and chanted slogans against him. Video footage revealed the escalating nature of the protest, culminating in the protester’s act of tearing an Indian flag in front of Jaishankar’s vehicle.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, denounced these provocative actions by extremist groups. He stated, “We condemn the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists” and expressed disappointment regarding the misuse of democratic freedoms by such factions. Jaiswal reiterated the expectation of adherence to diplomatic norms by the host government.

India has consistently raised concerns with the UK regarding the activities of pro-Khalistan supporters that have included previous incidents of violent demonstrations. Such protests have previously affected bilateral relations, notably when a pro-Khalistan activist desecrated the Indian flag at the Indian high commission last March.

The breach of security involving S. Jaishankar underscores ongoing tensions related to pro-Khalistan protests in the UK. India has consistently condemned these actions and called upon the UK government to uphold its diplomatic responsibilities. Such incidents not only threaten individual safety but also have implications for India-UK relations, needing concerted efforts to address underlying issues.
