Seven Civilians Killed as SAF and RSF Clash in North Kordofan

Seven civilians were killed in Umm Kuraydim during an airstrike by the SAF amidst RSF advances. The NUP condemned both the airstrikes and the RSF’s actions as violations of humanitarian law, urging for humanitarian relief efforts. Fighting persists in the region, with SAF and RSF engaging in ongoing hostilities.

Recent clashes in North Kordofan have resulted in the deaths of at least seven civilians due to an airstrike conducted by Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) warplanes targeting Umm Kuraydim, as Rapid Support Forces (RSF) advanced in the region. The National Umma Party (NUP) has condemned the aerial bombardment, which they claim took place in conjunction with the RSF’s advance, accusing the SAF of violating international humanitarian law.

The NUP stated, “The bombing killed seven civilians, and injured a number of others, some of whom were targeted by the RSF with gunfire in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.” They criticized the indiscriminate targeting of civilians and denounced the RSF’s assault on a town lacking military significance, which raised alarm among residents.

According to the NUP, both the SAF’s aerial strikes and the RSF’s military incursion amount to war crimes, endangering civilian lives and causing widespread panic. They have urged the creation of safe humanitarian corridors to facilitate urgent aid for affected populations throughout the country.

Reports indicate that the SAF is currently targeting the town of Bara in an attempt to sever RSF connections between Khartoum and Kordofan and Darfur. The RSF previously claimed to have defeated an SAF unit near Bara, as the situation escalates following the SAF’s earlier capture of Um Rawaba and El Rahad, which marked a strategic advantage in lifting the siege on El Obeid.

The conflict in North Kordofan has resulted in tragic civilian casualties due to military actions by both the SAF and RSF. The accusations from the NUP highlight significant concerns regarding violations of humanitarian law amidst ongoing violence. Calls for humanitarian corridors indicate an urgent need for aid to support affected civilians as the situation continues to unfold.
