Rwanda has criticized Canada for its statement regarding the DRC conflict, claiming it defames Rwanda by alleging its military involvement. The Rwandan government refuted Canada’s accusations, asserting that it will continue to engage regionally instead of accepting punitive measures.
On March 4, the Rwandan government condemned a statement from Global Affairs Canada regarding the ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The statement was labeled as defamatory and unacceptable, primarily due to allegations about the presence of Rwandan Defence Forces and support for militant group M23 in DRC. The Canadian statement was signed by Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly and other key officials.
In response to Canada’s allegations, Rwanda emphasized that punitive measures will not resolve the ongoing conflict. The Rwandan government insists on adhering to an African-led mediation process, maintaining its national security as a priority.
