While speaking during the burial of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi in Kakamega County, he announced plans for the construction of five new roads aimed at boosting economic growth in the region.
Ruto acknowledged the sentiments expressed by locals regarding feeling left out in previous governments, emphasizing his commitment to ensure that Western Kenya is part of the country’s development narrative. “You have said you were left behind in the past governments. I will make sure Western will not be left behind in development,” he declared.
While addressing the community, he highlighted that progress cannot be achieved through conflict among leaders. “I have said it before, Kakamega will not be changed with noise or chaos. It will be changed with good plans and strategy,” he explained, urging local leaders to cooperate to foster regional development.
His comments followed an appeal from Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who called for an end to violent confrontations during funerals and public events. Mudavadi notably urged politicians to embrace tolerance, stating, “Stop misusing youths to cause chaos in funerals or public meetings. Chaos will not take you anywhere.”
Ruto encouraged collaboration among the region’s leaders and expressed confidence in achieving economic growth by 2025, having spent his initial two years laying the groundwork. “This will be a year of results,” he noted, thanking local leaders, particularly Governor Barasa, for supporting development efforts in Western Kenya.
The President outlined his focus on enhancing the region’s road infrastructure, electricity connections, and agricultural productivity. He also promised that both workers at Nzoia Sugar Company and sugarcane farmers would receive fair compensation.
