Gachagua: GEMA as a Key Player in Kenya’s Upcoming Government

Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the GEMA communities will play a crucial role in determining Kenya’s next government, stating their strength lies in unity. He criticized President Ruto, suggesting his political fate depends on opposition leaders. Gachagua also aims to form alliances with key political figures as he prepares for the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for a united front against the current administration.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has proclaimed that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities will play a pivotal role in forming Kenya’s next government, regardless of whether opposition leader Raila Odinga supports them. During a church service in Machakos, Gachagua asserted GEMA’s capability to influence Kenya’s political landscape effectively.

Gachagua confidently asserted, “GEMA ndiyo dawa ya Kenya. GEMA itaunda the next government,” emphasizing that unity among the communities would ensure political strength. He reassured his supporters about their electoral strength, stating, “We have looked at the numbers and they are good, with or without him (Raila).”

Further criticizing President William Ruto, Gachagua claimed Ruto’s political survival heavily depends on Odinga’s involvement. He declared, “Life support machine ya Ruto ni Raila saa hii. Akizima, amekwisha,” predicting that Ruto could face serious challenges during the 2027 election, placing him at “number three ama number four.”

Gachagua also expressed the belief that if the GEMA communities united, they could dominate Kenyan politics for the next century. “If we unite as GEMA, we shall be in power for the next 100 years,” he confidently stated.

As political speculation grows regarding Gachagua’s future, he has shown willingness to collaborate with Odinga to oust Ruto. Recently, he criticized the political partnership between Odinga and Ruto, which he views as diminishing Odinga’s legacy.

In an interview with Musyi FM, Gachagua questioned Odinga’s motives, saying, “I do not understand Raila’s intentions; it is his choice… or join the side of liberating this country.” He indicated that the younger Gen Z voters, instrumental in the last elections, are unlikely to support Ruto in 2027, suggesting a strong shift in voter sentiment.

To build a formidable opposition coalition, Gachagua has reached out to significant political figures, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa. His outreach signifies a critical shift in Kenya’s political dynamics as the upcoming elections approach.

Gachagua emphasizes the potential of the GEMA communities to lead Kenya’s next government, insisting their unity is crucial for political dominance. His critiques of Ruto underline the shifting political alliances and Gachagua’s intentions to strengthen his position by engaging with opposition figures. As the 2027 elections draw near, the dynamics within Kenya’s political scene continue evolving, especially among the youth. Ultimately, Gachagua’s assertive statements and strategic collaborations highlight the growing significance of opposition coalitions in shaping the future political landscape of Kenya.
