Vietnam and Sweden’s bilateral relationship is set to expand, as discussed by VM and Swedish officials in Hà Nội. With 55 years of diplomatic ties ahead, both parties intend to enhance cooperation in trade, technology, and education, while promoting investment agreements to create new business opportunities.
Vietnam and Sweden are poised to strengthen their bilateral relationship, as noted by Aron Emilsson, chair of the Swedish parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, during his recent meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn in Hà Nội. The two leaders acknowledged the achievements in political and economic cooperation, particularly as they approach the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024.
Sơn highlighted Sweden’s historical support during Vietnam’s fight for independence and its ongoing assistance in Vietnam’s development. He stressed the importance of enhancing communication between state agencies and businesses, focusing on areas such as trade, technology, energy transition, and education that align with both countries’ priorities.
Vietnam also urged the Swedish parliament to facilitate the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) among EU member states, which could create new opportunities for business engagements. Emilsson recognized Vietnam’s impressive growth and expressed a desire for deeper cooperation to bolster mutual understanding and ties between the two nations.
The discussions also encompassed socioeconomic growth, foreign policy, and international concerns relevant to both countries. Both parties agreed on the necessity to bolster collaboration within regional and multilateral forums to address global challenges, particularly regarding security, peace, and sustainable development.
The meeting between Vietnamese and Swedish officials signifies a commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, building on historical ties and current development goals. Both nations are focused on fostering cooperation in key sectors and ensuring that legislative support facilitates future investment and mutual growth.
