UAE and Italy Unite to Transform Water Infrastructure for MEA Region

The UAE and Italy have formed an alliance to improve water infrastructure in the MEA region through key partnerships between Metito Utilities and Italian institutions. This initiative aims to enhance water security for millions by implementing sustainable solutions in water management, aligning with global development goals and addressing critical infrastructure needs, especially in African nations.

The UAE and Italy have partnered to enhance water infrastructure in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, aiming to improve water security for millions. Metito Utilities has signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), SACE, and ACEA S.p.A. during the UAE-Italy Business Forum in Rome, an event attended by key leaders including UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

This collaboration marks a pivotal step in fostering sustainable water infrastructure, aligning with Italy’s Mattei Plan and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. By leveraging the resources of CDP, SACE, and ACEA S.p.A., Metito Utilities plans to accelerate the implementation of eco-friendly water solutions in markets critically in need of water infrastructure.

Rami Ghandour, CEO of Metito Utilities, emphasized the transformative potential of these partnerships. He stated that combining the experience of Metito Utilities with Italian expertise will create a robust framework to address urgent infrastructure necessities, enhancing water security across diverse global markets. This initiative builds upon Metito’s commitment to supporting water projects in Africa, further amplified by their Africa Water Infrastructure Development initiative.

The collaboration with CDP offers essential funding avenues for water infrastructure, particularly for African nations that qualify for Official Development Assistance (ODA). This alignment with Italy’s development agenda not only facilitates funding for critical infrastructure but also fosters opportunities for Italian enterprises in developing regions.

SACE’s role in this strategic collaboration will introduce innovative financial solutions and insurance frameworks, expediting project initiation across Africa and the UAE. This cooperation seeks to strengthen economic ties between Italian industries and emerging markets, catalyzing sustainable development in the water sector.

Working alongside ACEA S.p.A, recognized for its water and energy services, Metito Utilities aims to innovate sustainable water management solutions. By developing treatment plants, desalination facilities, and distribution networks, this partnership aspires to provide advanced water security technologies for communities across Africa and the Middle East.

To seize opportunities in Africa, Metito Utilities intends to utilize various funding sources and its expertise in executing projects under the AWID framework. This innovative platform is designed to scale up climate-smart water projects and contribute to overall water security in the continent.

The partnership between the UAE and Italy, led by Metito Utilities, promises significant advancements in water infrastructure throughout the MEA region. By engaging key Italian institutions like CDP, SACE, and ACEA S.p.A., this initiative aims to address urgent water security needs, particularly in developing markets. Through innovative funding and sustainable practices, these collaborations will enhance water management capabilities and promote economic growth, fostering community resilience and environmental sustainability.
