Uruguayan Organizations Rally for Palestine, Condemn Israeli Policies

Uruguayan organizations rallied in front of Montevideo City Hall to support Palestine, demanding the break of relations with Israel until the violence ceases. Various movements and political entities joined in the protest, emphasizing resilience and opposing colonialism and apartheid. Former deputy Christian Mirza urged the newly elected government to support Palestinian rights and reject neutrality.

Uruguayan organizations united to show their support for Palestine in a march held in front of the Montevideo City Hall. This demonstration was organized by the Palestinian Uruguay Coordination and attracted participation from various social movements, trade unions, and political parties. The demonstrators demanded the severance of ties with Israel until the alleged genocide against Palestinians ceases.

During the march, a proclamation was shared, emphasizing resilience in face of adversity, and echoing sentiments such as, “We resist, because we are olive tree and root, because the wind whispers Palestine and there is no exile that erases the return,” stated the trade union central PIT-CNT on social media.

The Coordinator for Palestine also expressed strong sentiments against oppression, demanding an end to “colonialism, genocide and apartheid!” Former substitute deputy Christian Mirza from the Popular Participation Movement of the Broad Front expressed hope that the new government under Yamandu Orsi would adopt a supportive stance towards Palestine, rather than maintaining neutrality, underscoring the importance of backing the Palestinian cause.

The recent demonstration in Uruguay highlights a strong coalition of local organizations advocating for Palestinian rights and condemning Israeli policies. The event signifies a clear demand for a shift in foreign policy from the new government, emphasizing solidarity with Palestine amidst ongoing international disputes. This collective action reflects a growing movement against colonial practices and calls for an end to oppression.
