Israeli Bulldozers Demolish Homes in Nur Shams Refugee Camp During Ramadan

Israeli bulldozers began demolishing homes in Nur Shams refugee camp amid escalating military actions. A notice issued five days prior cited road construction as justification for the demolitions. Residents faced harassment and were given minimal time to evacuate, leading to significant displacement, especially among vulnerable populations. The situation underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.

On the first day of Ramadan, Israeli military bulldozers commenced the demolition of several homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp, located east of Tulkarm. Heavy “D10” bulldozers were deployed to the camp early in the morning, destroying residential structures starting near the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque while reconnaissance aircraft flew overhead.

This demolition escalation followed a notice from Israeli authorities five days prior, which ordered the destruction of eleven homes under the pretense of road construction from the camp square to the Al-Mansheya neighborhood. The targeted homes belonged to families, including those of Yusuf, Jibali, Mar’i, Abu Shlbaia, Irani, Shihab, Yunis, and Ghannam.

The day following the demolition notice, Israeli forces granted the affected homeowners only three hours to return and evacuate their belongings. Additionally, these forces continued to conduct raids in the Jabal Al-Nasr neighborhood, pressuring residents to evacuate quickly and using live ammunition and sound bombs to instill fear.

The ongoing Israel aggression is now in its 21st consecutive day, resulting in massive displacement within the camp. Vulnerable groups such as women, children, the elderly, and sick individuals fled from neighborhoods like Al-Mansheya, Al-Mas’akh, Jabal Al-Nasr, and Al-Salihyeen, with over 5,500 individuals seeking shelter in Tulkarm city and nearby areas.

This wave of demolitions and military presence marks a significant escalation of the situation in Tulkarm and its refugee camps, now in a state of heightened military activity for 33 consecutive days. Israeli forces reinforced their operations with a substantial number of military vehicles, bulldozers, and infantry, effectively imposing a siege on the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps and converting several residences into military outposts.

The recent demolitions in the Nur Shams refugee camp highlight ongoing tensions between Israeli authorities and residents, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region. With thousands displaced and the military presence intensifying, the situation remains dire for affected families. The use of force during home evacuations raises concerns regarding the treatment of civilians during military operations.
