Microsoft’s global AI Tour recently stopped in Muscat, Oman, at the St Regis Hotel, gathering industry leaders, developers, and government officials to discuss the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Oman’s digital economy. The event highlighted Microsoft’s dedication to innovation and aligned with the sultanate’s Vision 2040 through advanced AI solutions.
Keynotes were delivered by Microsoft executives including Samer Abu-Ltaif, the President of Microsoft EMEA, and Charles Nahas, Regional General Manager for Commercial Solutions in the Middle East. Ltaif emphasized Microsoft’s commitment to Oman’s growth by providing cloud and AI solutions crucial for sustainable development in line with Vision 2040.
Sheikh Saif Hilal al Hosni, Microsoft Oman and Bahrain Country Manager, noted the growing recognition among Omani businesses of AI as a key factor for enhancing efficiency and competitiveness. He stated that Microsoft is at the forefront of empowering organizations to utilize AI advancements, reinforcing its support for the Omani digital economy.
The event showcased practical AI applications through partnerships with local organizations. For instance, the Ministry of Education introduced an AI-powered chatbot for instant information access and implemented Microsoft Copilot to improve teaching methodologies. In addition, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences and Omantel have integrated AI to enhance operational efficiency and learning processes.
Ahmed Al Habib from Oman Housing Bank shared the positive effects of Microsoft 365 Copilot in improving productivity and service delivery. He remarked that AI is already transforming work dynamics, enhancing operational efficiency significantly.
The AI Excellence Awards honored organizations excelling in AI implementation. Recognized entities included the Ministry of Education, NCSI, Oman Housing Bank, Omantel, OQ SAOC, Renaissance Services SAOC, and UTAS, each valued for their innovative AI applications in various sectors.
The tour encompassed detailed sessions regarding Microsoft’s AI tools, such as Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Agents, aimed at enhancing workplace productivity. Discussions also addressed Responsible AI practices, showcasing Microsoft’s commitment to ethical and transparent AI development.
