Migori County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu has announced a partnership with Tanzanian security agencies to combat counterfeit goods and illegal products along the border. This initiative aims to protect national revenue and enhance border safety. Significant seizures of dangerous materials have already occurred as part of this crackdown.
Migori County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu announced a partnership between local security agencies in Kenya and their Tanzanian counterparts to combat counterfeit goods and illegal products across the porous border. Kisilu emphasized the detrimental impact of these illegal activities on the country’s revenue, particularly through unmonitored routes instead of the official border crossings at Isebania and Muhuru Bay.
During a meeting at his office, Kisilu called on residents living near the border to support local security initiatives in safeguarding the nation against these illegal practices. He urged the community to remain vigilant and not to assist unauthorized individuals in transporting unaccounted goods across the border, in violation of regulations set by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
The ongoing collaboration with Tarime, Tanzania, aims to enhance border security and safety. Kisilu reported that the multi-security agency effort has already led to significant seizures, including 200 kilograms of sodium cyanide and 400 kilograms of explosives, which pose serious risks especially in mining activities.
He praised the concerted efforts of the Migori multi-agency security team for their commitment to securing the country’s borders. Kisilu stressed that the objective of the crackdown isn’t to target individuals unfairly but to protect national interests and ensure compliance with legal standards.
In summary, the local security agencies in Migori are enhancing collaboration with Tanzanian authorities to address the challenges posed by counterfeit and illegal goods crossing the border. This initiative aims to safeguard national revenue, enforce compliance, and ensure community involvement in protecting borders. Previous seizures underscore the seriousness of this issue and the commitment to maintaining safety and security along the border.
