Latter-day Saints across South America recently engaged in humanitarian efforts, providing aid to flood victims in Brazil, packaging food kits in Paraguay, and refurbishing community buildings in Bolivia. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from multiple South American nations participated in relief efforts to support communities affected by disasters. In Brazil, volunteers provided significant assistance to flood victims, while in Paraguay, members packaged food kits. Additionally, in Bolivia, they refurbished a community welcome center, embodying the principle of service inspired by their faith.
In Brazil, following severe flooding due to heavy rains, extensive efforts were made to assist those displaced. The Church mobilized quickly, donating over 2,000 food baskets, 3,000 gallons of drinking water, 2,500 hygiene kits, 220 mattresses, and 138 blankets across affected cities. Coronel Fabriciano was particularly impacted, receiving 890 food baskets and 1,780 gallons of drinking water, among other necessities.
Adverse conditions in Ipatinga resulted in fatalities and displacement, prompting additional donations, including 500 food baskets and hygiene kits. The Church extended similar aid to Paranaguá, Campinas, and Jundiaí, all of which faced challenges following the storms, assisting approximately 500 families displaced.
In Paraguay, Latter-day Saints collaborated with volunteers from the Archdiocese of Asunción to combat food insecurity in Chaco. They assembled 3,000 non-perishable food kits for communities most at risk, reflecting a shared commitment influenced by the slogan, “Together, let’s help our brothers in Chaco.”
On December 7 and 8, 2024, 238 volunteers in Bolivia undertook the task of refurbishing the José Soria Welcome Center in La Paz. Under the leadership of Stake President Carlos Vásquez, volunteers contributed materials such as paint and tools, embodying the Church’s values through action. This initiative included activities like sanding walls and cleaning bathrooms, enhancing the facility for vulnerable children.
President Vásquez noted their actions were inspired by the example of Jesus Christ, emphasizing love, service, and compassion as core values. The event underscored their ongoing commitment to serve the underprivileged and honor those dedicating efforts towards child welfare.
