This week, the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) hosted a successful auction where 33,435 bags of coffee generated Sh. 1.78 billion. This marks a significant increase in volume compared to last week’s trade of 18,874 bags. The average price per 50-kilo bag also improved, rising to Sh. 43,512 from Sh. 43,253 in the previous sale.
Githembe coffee factory, associated with Thiririka Farmers’ Cooperative Society in Kiambu, achieved the highest price for grade AA coffee, selling 26 bags at Sh. 53,354 each, facilitated by Alliance Berries Ltd. Other top performers included Guama at Sh. 52,577, Marumi at Sh. 47,656, and Ithanga ini at Sh. 49,728, all offering high-quality grade AA beans.
Leading the trading volume was Alliance Berries Ltd, which sold 15,973 bags for Sh. 878.76 million. Furthermore, Kirinyaga Slopes Company traded 4,310 bags for Sh. 227.75 million, while new KPCU and KCCE Marketing Agency sold 3,439 and 2,423 bags respectively, bringing in Sh. 179.5 million and Sh. 131.3 million.
A total of 20 buyers participated in the auction. C. Dormans was the top buyer, acquiring 7,531 bags for Sh. 415.5 million, followed by Kenyacof Limited with 6,449 bags at Sh. 364.8 million. Other notable buyers included Ibero Kenya Limited and Taylor Winch, showcasing strong demand for Kenyan coffee.
Lisper Ndung’u, NCE’s CEO, noted the impressive auction results reflect global demand for high-quality Kenyan coffee and the growth in market dynamics. She emphasized that the total market value illustrates the robust trading environment and the stakeholders’ commitment to upholding quality standards.
Additionally, Ndung’u highlighted that the presentation of 26,716 bags of premium grades indicates an expanding market, reinforcing confidence in the coffee sector. This week’s auction performance points to the effective supply chain and favorable conditions that enhance Kenyan coffee’s appeal in international markets.
