Marriott Expands Luxury Portfolio with New Safari Camps in Kenya

Marriott International is launching two luxury tented safari camps in Kenya – The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp and JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp. These properties will focus on eco-friendly construction, offering unique wildlife experiences and luxurious amenities, and they are expected to open in 2025 and 2026 respectively.

Marriott International is set to enhance its luxury portfolio with the introduction of two high-end tented camps in Kenya: The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp and JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp. These developments are in collaboration with Lazizi Group of Companies and signify a significant expansion in Marriott’s foothold within Africa’s luxury travel sector.

The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp is scheduled to open in August 2025 in the Masai Mara National Reserve. It will feature 20 tented suites, including a four-bedroom presidential suite, each with premium amenities such as a private sunken lounge, an infinity plunge pool, and both indoor and outdoor showers. Guests will have access to diverse dining options, including a multi-cuisine restaurant and a stargazing deck.

Similarly, the JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp will open in early 2026 within the Solio Game Reserve. This camp will offer 20 luxurious tented units, including two spacious suites with plunge pools. Planned amenities also include wellness spaces, a variety of dining options, and activities such as guided horse-riding safaris and nature walks, all set within a 45,000-acre game reserve.

Both safari camps will use eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient designs to minimize environmental impact while supporting local biodiversity. These offerings reflect an increasing demand for unique and immersive lodging experiences in natural settings, as noted by Marriott’s Chief Development Officer for the region.

By introducing these luxury camps, Marriott aims to further tap into the growing market for outdoor lodging and enhance its reputation in high-end tourism within Africa. These initiatives emphasize sustainability and luxury while providing guests with rich wildlife experiences and cultural engagement opportunities.

Marriott is significantly expanding its luxury offerings in Africa with the upcoming Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott safari camps in Kenya, set to open between 2025 and 2026. These environmentally conscious properties will enhance the travel experience by combining luxury lodging with unique wildlife interactions, thus catering to the growing demand for upscale adventure tourism in the region.
