In a recent event marking Kuwait’s 64th National Day and 34th Liberation Day in Abuja, Ambassador Salim Khalifa Almuzayen announced Kuwait’s commitment to support 200,000 out-of-school children in Nigeria.
Ambassador Almuzayen highlighted Kuwait’s diplomatic approach, which emphasizes moderation and systematic relations globally. He noted that Kuwait has operated under a constitution promoting inclusive participation in decision-making since its establishment, which reflects its pride in democracy.
Kuwait and Nigeria have historically strong bilateral relations dating back to the 1960s, exemplified by the founding of the Al-Sabah School in Kaduna State. Almuzayen expressed optimism for future collaborative opportunities across various sectors between the two nations.
Regarding the initiative to support education, Almuzayen revealed the “Reaching Out-of-School Children” project, backed by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in partnership with UNICEF. This project is designed to assist over 200,000 Nigerian children.
Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar acknowledged the diplomatic relations that have progressed from initial contacts in 1971 to ambassadorial representation. He recognized Kuwait’s significant contributions to regional peace and development within the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Ambassador Tuggar further praised Kuwait’s free education policy, which has achieved an adult literacy rate of 96.46%. This achievement reflects Kuwait’s commitment to educational and social development, underscoring the potential for further cooperation between Nigeria and Kuwait.
