Chile Sends Super Puma Helicopter to Combat Wildfires in Argentina

Chile has sent an AS332 Super Puma helicopter to assist Argentina with wildfires in Patagonia. Operated by Ecocopter+Helisul, the helicopter can drop considerable amounts of water and will operate for at least 14 days. This response follows massive forest destruction due to fires exacerbated by poor weather conditions.

The National Forest Corporation (CONAF) of Chile has deployed an AS332 Super Puma helicopter, registered as ZT-RYC, to aid in the firefighting efforts in Argentina’s Patagonia region. Operating under the management of Ecocopter+Helisul, this helicopter can drop up to 3,500 liters of water per mission, providing crucial support as wildfires ravage the area.

Tasked with addressing a significant wildfire crisis that has scorched more than 34,000 hectares of forest, the Super Puma will be utilized for a minimum of 14 days in the province of Neuquén. The aircraft will collaborate with firefighters and authorities from both Chile and Argentina, intensifying efforts in affected areas including Nahuel Huapi National Park and Lanín National Park.

The wildfire crisis, exacerbated by soaring temperatures and robust winds, has raised concerns among officials. Francisco Arriagada, Commercial Manager of Ecocopter+Helisul, emphasized the urgent need to protect the environment through collective efforts. He stated their commitment to safeguarding communities and ecosystems, showcasing the readiness of the Super Puma and their expertise in firefighting solutions.

Chile’s deployment of the Super Puma helicopter underlines a significant joint effort to combat the destructive wildfires in Argentina’s Patagonia region. As the crisis continues, the collaboration between Chilean and Argentinian authorities reflects a shared commitment to environmental preservation and community safety.
