UAE’s Foreign Policy Reflects Commitment to Palestinian Rights

Saqr Ghabash, the Speaker of the FNC, stated that the Palestinian Cause has been integral to the UAE’s foreign policy since 1971. The UAE’s humanitarian support during Gaza’s crisis exceeded 40%. The UAE supports a two-state solution and has recently submitted a resolution for Palestinian UN membership. The UAE also endorses Hashemite custodianship in Jerusalem and condemns proposals that disregard Palestinian rights.

The Palestinian Cause has been a cornerstone of the UAE’s foreign policy since its establishment in 1971, as affirmed by Saqr Ghabash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC). The UAE has consistently supported Palestinians politically and diplomatically, notably contributing over 40% of total international humanitarian aid during the recent Gaza crisis, which demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to alleviating Palestinian suffering.

Ghabash emphasized that the UAE has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people amidst ongoing regional instability. Following a recent statement by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE maintains that reconstruction efforts in Gaza must be tied to a two-state solution, rejecting any form of displacement for Palestinians.

During the 7th Arab Parliament Conference in Cairo, Ghabash highlighted the urgency of addressing the continued Israeli occupation and its humanitarian impact, especially on innocent civilians in Gaza, including significant casualties among children and women. He condemned proposals that aim to alter the demographic landscape of Gaza, which would disregard the rights of Palestinians to their land.

The UAE has also played a pivotal role in international advocacy for Palestine, submitting a resolution in May 2024 to elevate Palestine to full UN membership status, which garnered support from 143 nations. This reflects the UAE’s ongoing efforts to enhance Palestine’s standing globally and advance the two-state solution agenda.

Furthermore, Ghabash reaffirmed the UAE’s backing of Hashemite custodianship over holy sites in Jerusalem and its collaboration with Egypt and Jordan in resisting the displacement of residents in Gaza and the West Bank. He criticized calls for reallocating land for Gazans, while recognizing Saudi Arabia’s steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause.

The UAE’s foreign policy has consistently prioritized the Palestinian issue, reaffirming its support through significant humanitarian aid and international advocacy. Recent developments emphasize the urgency of a two-state solution while condemning forced displacement proposals. The UAE’s role at the UN highlights its commitment to advancing Palestinian rights and protecting historical privileges.
