Qatari and Libyan prime ministers met in Doha to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional issues, particularly focusing on Gaza and Syria. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated support for Libya’s unity and the political transition towards elections, aiming to resolve the crisis stemming from the divided governments in the country.
On Tuesday, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh in Doha. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional developments, particularly the ongoing situations in Gaza and Syria. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized Qatar’s strong commitment to supporting Libya’s unity and the aspirations of its people for stability and development.
He further reiterated Qatar’s unwavering backing for the Libyan political process, highlighting the importance of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and peaceful solutions that could uphold Libya’s sovereignty. Currently, efforts by the UN and local authorities are concentrated on facilitating elections in Libya to address the political standoff between the two rival governments – the UN-recognized Government of National Unity in Tripoli, led by Dbeibeh, and the eastern-based government headed by Osama Hamad.
Libyans are hopeful that the long-awaited elections will mark the end of ongoing political and military conflicts, effectively concluding the transitional phases that have ensued since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011. This meeting represents a step forward in fostering collaboration and addressing shared regional challenges.
The meeting between the Qatari and Libyan premiers underscores the importance of international support for Libya’s political process and unity as the country strives for stability. The discussions reflect a commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at resolving the political crisis and enhancing cooperation amid complex regional dynamics.
