Addis Ababa, February 25, 2025 (ENA)— In order to address the multifaceted global challenges, Mamo Mihretu, National Bank Governor of Ethiopia and the country’s BRICS Sherpa, highlighted the necessity for a reformed global system. This statement was made during the First Meeting of BRICS Sherpas and Sous Sherpas for 2025 in Brasilia, Brazil, which commenced with an address from Mauro Viera, Brazil’s Minister of External Affairs.
Mamo emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to multilateralism and collective security under the UN framework. He articulated that addressing complex global issues requires a reformed approach. Additionally, he pointed out that gaining membership in the New Development Bank is a priority for Ethiopia in 2025.
The Sherpa underscored the importance of enhancing intra-BRICS economic collaboration and urged a dedication to fulfilling the core objectives and initiatives set within the BRICS framework. Brazil’s BRICS 2025 presidency focuses on six key areas: global health, reform of global governance, climate finance, governance of artificial intelligence, cooperation among the Global South, and the development of BRICS institutions.
The two-day meeting will continue to discuss various agenda items that influence the strategic direction of BRICS and its member states. The collaborative effort aims to strengthen the collective response to global challenges through effective institutional frameworks and partnership.
