U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael J. Adler, highlighted the lack of significant progress in implementing peace commitments and noted that repeated RJMEC meetings have underscored this stagnation.
Adler remarked that despite the extension of the transitional government last September, which was anticipated, there has been no meaningful advancement towards a peaceful resolution. He criticized the failure of political will from South Sudan’s leaders to meet the expectations of their citizens and international partners, stating that public patience is waning.
The situation in South Sudan has deteriorated, with unpaid salaries and worsening living standards. Additionally, direct clashes among armed factions associated with the agreement continue, posing a risk of broader conflict.
