The NRL has finalized a deal with the Papua New Guinea government to establish a high-security ‘NRL Village’ in Port Moresby, aiming to accommodate players relocating for the league’s new franchise. This initiative is part of PNG’s anticipated entry as either the 18th or 19th NRL team in 2028, bolstered by a substantial $600 million investment from the Australian government.
The PNG government is set to contribute $150 million toward the facility, which can house around 200 individuals, including players, staff, and their families. The complex will not only enhance player safety amidst PNG’s high crime rates but will also include exceptional amenities, likely elevating it to be among the finest training centers in the NRL.
