AICS Director Marco Riccardo Rusconi visited Libya and Tunisia to establish the agenda for the Tunis Regional Office. In Libya, he discussed future cooperation focusing on cultural heritage, while in Tunisia, he evaluated the renovation of the Bizerte hospital’s Emergency Department, enhancing medical services for over 100,000 patients annually.
AICS Director Marco Riccardo Rusconi recently completed a significant visit to Libya and Tunisia to outline the agenda for the Tunis Regional Office. Accompanied by Head of Office Isabella Lucaferri, Director Rusconi engaged with local staff and the UN Country Team in Tripoli to prepare for the resumption of activities following the signing of a Cooperation Memorandum in October 2024.
The Italian cooperation in Libya will prioritize enhancing the nation’s cultural and archaeological heritage, a focus that will also leverage EU funding. This emphasis is part of a broader strategy to foster sustainable development in the region.
In Tunisia, Director Rusconi inspected the Regional Hospital of Bizerte, assessing the completion of renovation works for the Emergency Department. As a primary healthcare facility for the Bizerte Governorate, the hospital caters to over 100,000 patients each year, and the enhancements, funded by Italian Cooperation, aim to elevate the standard of medical services available.
The visit by Director Rusconi highlights AICS’s commitment to supporting Libyan and Tunisian healthcare and cultural initiatives. With a focus on enhancing local capabilities and services through cooperation and targeted funding, these efforts are expected to facilitate positive development in both regions.
