Pacific Partnership 2022 Concludes in Palau with Multinational Efforts in Healthcare

Pacific Partnership 2022 concluded in Palau with significant medical outreach and training activities conducted by representatives from multiple nations, including the US, Australia, Japan, and the UK. The mission notably included surgeries, dental care, and animal assistance, while enhancing disaster response preparedness and forging long-lasting international partnerships.

The Pacific Partnership 2022 (PP22) concluded its Palau phase on July 23 in Koror, with diverse team members from Palau, Australia, Japan, the UK, and the US. Over the course of this phase, team members conducted extensive medical engagements, including more than 50 dental procedures, five surgeries, and care for 71 animals. Additionally, they hosted two humanitarian workshops training 120 personnel and organized three concerts attended by over 600 locals.

The USNS Mercy played a crucial role in this mission, as stressed by Palau President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr., who noted the importance of strengthening ties and enhancing medical capabilities in the region. The coordination among partner countries during PP22 improved mutual understanding and preparedness for natural disasters and humanitarian crises. Through these collaborative efforts, the initiative aims to foster stability, security, and interoperability among the nations involved.

Capt. Hank Kim, PP22 mission commander, expressed the honor of bringing the Pacific Partnership to Palau, stating that their collaboration provided valuable care and knowledge to foster lasting relationships. This year’s PP22 mission also included previous stops in Vietnam and Fiji, demonstrating the program’s wide-ranging impact. Now in its 17th year, Pacific Partnership remains the largest annual multilateral humanitarian mission in the Indo-Pacific region.

In summary, the concluding phase of Pacific Partnership 2022 in Palau highlights the collaborative effort in conducting various essential medical and humanitarian activities. The initiative has significantly strengthened relationships among partnering nations, enhanced local medical capabilities, and prepared involved personnel for future crises. Continuing through its yearly missions, Pacific Partnership fosters regional stability through cooperation and shared knowledge.
