Local professional golfers have gained five additional slots for the Magical Kenya Open through a joint effort by PGK and the event committee. A qualifying event at Windsor Golf & Country Club determined the participants, with top players emerging from a competitive field. The Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), alongside the Magical Kenya Open Local Organizing Committee, has allocated five additional slots for local professional golfers in the forthcoming Magical Kenya Open tournament. This initiative aims to enhance local representation in a premier event of the DP World Tour, reflecting the commitment to nurture professional golf in Kenya.
An 18-hole qualifying event was conducted at Windsor Golf & Country Club on February 17, 2025, to select the five professionals for these additional slots. A competitive field of 30 Kenyan golfers participated to secure their place in the prestigious tournament, emphasizing the high standards of local talent.
Mutahi Kibugu distinguished himself as the top qualifier by concluding the round with a score of -2. Following him, PGK Vice Chairman, Alfred Nandwa, and Erick Ooko obtained tied second-place scores of -1, showcasing their skill. The contention for fourth place involved Daniel Nduva, Mike Kisia, and Simon Njogu, all finishing at +2, requiring a playoff to finalize the slots.
To determine the final two qualifiers between Daniel Nduva and Simon Njogu, a sudden-death playoff on holes 1 and 18 ensued, where both players achieved par, while Mike Kisia finished with a bogey. Ultimately, the five golfers who qualified are Mutahi Kibugu, Alfred Nandwa, Erick Ooko, Daniel Nduva, and Simon Njogu, enhancing local participation in the tournament.
