GDF Evacuates Injured Soldiers After Cuyuni River Ambush

The GDF is evacuating six soldiers injured in an ambush along the Cuyuni River for urgent medical care in Georgetown. President Ali indicated a military helicopter is transporting them, and he reassured support for their recovery. The GDF is also reinforcing security in response to potential threats from armed gangs associated with Venezuela.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) announced on Tuesday that six soldiers injured in an ambush by masked gunmen along the Cuyuni River are being evacuated to Georgetown for urgent medical care. The welfare of military personnel is prioritized, and measures are in place to provide them with the highest quality of treatment. Families of the affected soldiers have also been notified regarding the soldiers’ conditions.

President Irfaan Ali, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, stated that an army Bell 412 helicopter was dispatched to facilitate the evacuation of the injured soldiers. Among those wounded are:
1. Second Lieutenant Ansel Murray – gunshot to the right side of the head.
2. Sergeant Kevon Davis – gunshot wound in the right foot and ankle.
3. Corporal Andre Fraser – gunshot wounds to the left abdomen and shoulder.
4. Corporal Kevin Henry – shot in the left arm and shoulder.
5. Lance Corporal Travis Yorrick – gunshot wound in the right thigh.
6. Private Ezron Samuel – shot in the right abdomen.

President Ali expressed deep concern for the injured soldiers and confirmed he spoke with them, acknowledging their bravery in serving the nation’s borders. He reassured them of the nation’s unwavering support and concern for their recovery.

Additionally, the Guyana Defence Force emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of all personnel and maintaining national security in response to the ambush. Following the attack on Monday, the GDF mobilized reinforcement efforts along the Cuyuni River. GDF reported that a resupply vessel from Eteringbang to Makapa came under gunfire from armed assailants, prompting an immediate defense response. Police believe the attackers have connections to the Venezuelan gang known as the Sindicatos.

The GDF is focused on the health and medical support for the six injured soldiers following a violent ambush. Reinforcement measures have been implemented to secure the area, and the military is responding to threats posed by organized crime from Venezuela. The president’s commitment to supporting the soldiers reflects the nation’s appreciation for their service.
