The Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities held the inaugural event, ‘Shafallah Bridging Nations: Weaving Connections Through Art,’ in Doha, Qatar. This initiative, organized in collaboration with the Bridging Nations Foundation and the French Academic Society of Arts, Sciences and Literature, emphasizes the role of art in fostering social inclusion and cultural ties. Officials, including the Ministers of Environment and Social Development, attended the event to support these aims.
The center’s initiative is designed to promote cooperation through arts by aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030. It aims to empower individuals with disabilities, offering them opportunities for creative expression and cultural involvement. The project emphasizes the importance of artistic collaboration to enhance understanding between diverse cultures.
Throughout the event, artists will work collectively to create artworks inspired by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative spans five days, beginning with an opening ceremony and team selection via a draw. Each team will focus on one of the 17 SDGs in their artwork, fostering communication among participants.
Aida Omar Al Shirawi, the center’s spokesperson, highlighted that the initiative includes workshops for 17 creative teams composed of professional artists and individuals with disabilities. The collaboration ensures that participants learn from one another, ultimately competing for the top three positions in the creative challenge.
This initiative showcases a diverse range of talents, featuring 17 disabled artists representing various organizations, including Shafallah Center, Best Buddies Qatar, and Al-Noor Center for the Blind. Collaborations with professional artists from Qatar further enrich the creative output of this program, reinforcing community ties and artistic collaboration.
