Sudan War: SAF Advances Towards Khartoum’s Republican Palace Amid Ongoing Violence

The Sudanese Armed Forces are advancing towards Khartoum’s Republican Palace, encountering fierce resistance from the Rapid Support Forces. Reports indicate significant casualties among civilians in East Nile due to ongoing violence. The SAF has gained control over strategic areas while RSF forces continue to challenge the SAF’s claims in contested regions.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) are steadily advancing toward the Republican Palace in Khartoum, engaging the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amid ongoing artillery clashes in White Nile state. On-the-ground sources confirm that the SAF has gained control over several buildings near the palace and parts of the Sajana neighborhood. The SAF also asserted their dominance over residential block 9 and critical infrastructure, including the Bahri Thermal Power Plant.

In East Nile, the army is making progress, capturing various areas in Haj Youssef and continuing clashes in East Soba. Their strategy involves securing the strategic Soba Bridge to isolate RSF forces in East Nile from those in Khartoum, with reports indicating significant penetration into RSF-held territories.

The Emergency Lawyers Group reported severe violence in East Nile, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including fatalities due to indiscriminate shootings. The group highlighted unlawful activities by the RSF, such as arbitrary arrests and looting, exacerbated by a complete breakdown of essential services and infrastructure, including power and communications.

The SAF has also made gains in northern White Nile, seizing control of essential oil pumping stations previously held by the RSF. Their movements aim to take control of the Jebel Awlya reservoir, which would further isolate RSF units in Khartoum from those in Omdurman, thereby enhancing military strategy.

Amid conflicting reports, SAF soldiers claim to have secured the 53rd Infantry Brigade Command in Habila, South Kordofan, indicating RSF withdrawal. However, RSF troops were also reportedly seen at the same location, challenging SAF’s claims and highlighting the complex dynamics of the conflict.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan involves aggressive advancements by the SAF, highlighting significant battles in Khartoum and surrounding areas. The SAF’s control over strategic locations, including near the Republican Palace and key oil infrastructure, indicates a shift in power dynamics. However, widespread civilian suffering and systemic violence by RSF forces complicate the scenario, calling for urgent attention to the humanitarian situation on the ground.
