This achievement marks him as the first athlete ever to complete the distance in under 57 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by Yomif Kejelcha by 88 seconds. Kiplimo’s outstanding performance comes just ahead of his marathon debut, scheduled for April 27 in London.
Kiplimo commented on his race strategy, expressing his excitement about his accomplishment. He described how he began strongly, aiming to separate himself from his competitors early on. As he maintained a record-breaking pace throughout the race, he decided to hold onto that speed at all costs, ultimately succeeding in his goal.
In the men’s race, Geoffrey Kamworor from Uganda took second place with a time of 58:44, followed by Kenya’s Samuel Mailu finishing in 59:40. In the women’s category, Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya won with a time of 1:04:11.
