UAE Expands Visa Waiver Program for Indian Passport Holders

The UAE has expanded its visa waiver program for Indian passport holders, allowing entry without a prior visa from February 13, 2024. Eligible travelers with valid permits from additional countries, such as Singapore and Japan, can obtain a visa-on-arrival. Visa fees are affordable, and the initiative is aimed at boosting tourism and strengthening UAE-India relations.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has broadened its visa waiver program for Indian nationals, allowing entry without a prior visa if they possess valid visas, residency permits, or green cards from an extended list of countries. This new regulation, effective from February 13, 2024, aims to streamline the entry process for Indian passport holders and their families holding regular passports.

Previously, Indian citizens could enter the UAE without a visa only if they held valid visas or permits from the United States, the United Kingdom, or EU nations. The recent update adds six more countries to this list: Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, enhancing travel facilitation for Indian nationals.

Eligible Indian travelers can obtain a visa-on-arrival at all designated entry points in the UAE. To qualify, travelers must have a passport valid for at least six months upon arrival and pay the necessary visa fees. This initiative aims to mitigate bureaucratic hindrances and enhance the travel experience for Indian passengers.

The visa fees under this new program are as follows: a 14-day entry visa costs Dh100, while a 14-day extension is available for Dh250. A 60-day visa option also costs Dh250, making short- and long-term visits more affordable for tourism, business, and family engagements in the UAE.

This policy change signifies the strong historical, cultural, and economic ties between the UAE and India. By easing travel restrictions, the UAE aims to encourage Indian nationals to visit for business opportunities, tourism, and potential long-term residency. This effort is in line with the UAE’s objective to establish itself as a global tourism, trade, and investment center.

The expansion of the UAE’s visa waiver program for Indian passport holders reflects a commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through improved travel accessibility. By including more countries in the eligibility list and providing affordable visa options, the initiative is poised to attract increased tourism and business engagement from Indian nationals, benefiting both economies.
