Webb Fontaine is significantly improving Benin’s Customs operations through digitalization, enhancing trade efficiency, security, and revenue collection. The initiative replaced the outdated ASYCUDAWorld system with Webb Customs, marking a major technological transformation. This progress was highlighted during the 15th Public Finance Review Meeting in Cotonou, attended by key stakeholders and supported by Mr. Alban Bienvenu BESSAN, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance.
Since its launch in July 2022, Webb Customs has been adopted by 44 out of 49 customs offices in Benin. The system has already generated over 30 billion CFA francs in revenue and activated more than 700 user accounts. Additional achievements include processing over 59,000 returns and issuing more than 100,000 receipts. Migration for the final five revenue-generating offices, including the crucial port of Cotonou, is slated for mid-2025.
The collaboration between the Beninese government and Webb Fontaine exemplifies the positive impact of innovative technologies on Customs operations. Alioune Ciss, CEO of Webb Fontaine, emphasized the commitment to promoting a transparent and efficient Customs environment through advanced technologies, including AI. This technological shift aims to bolster security and streamline information exchange in the global supply chain.
Webb Customs offers a comprehensive, AI-enhanced Customs Management System that integrates various trade platforms, such as the National Single Window and the Port Community System. This seamless integration facilitates faster cargo clearance, minimizes corruption, and promotes a paperless workflow within Customs operations.
Looking ahead, Webb Fontaine aims to continue advancing the modernization of trade and Customs systems in Benin through ongoing technological integration, research, and strategic partnerships to enhance operational efficiency.
Webb Fontaine’s digital transformation of Benin’s Customs operations promises to increase efficiency and compliance while securing revenue collection. With significant milestones already achieved, the partnership showcases the potential of advanced technologies in modernizing trade facilitation processes. The future focus on continuous improvement and technological integration is expected to further enhance the capabilities of Beninese Customs.
