This initiative involves establishing one of the largest urea production plants globally, with a capacity of 4,000 tons per day, located in the Soyo region of Zaire Province. The plant will be Angola’s first urea fertilizer facility, significantly diminishing reliance on imports and bolstering domestic agricultural production.
Currently, Angola depends entirely on imported urea fertilizer; however, advancing natural gas production in the country presents an opportunity to locally produce fertilizer. This project aims to meet domestic demands and enhance regional export capabilities, thereby improving food security for neighboring nations. Additionally, the plant is expected to create jobs, improve Angola’s trade balance through fertilizer exports, and aid in diversifying the country’s industrial base.
As the technology licensor, TOYO will utilize its cutting-edge ACES21 urea synthesis technology alongside advanced granulation methods, facilitating efficient plant construction and operational optimization. TOYO’s responsibilities include licensing, basic design, proprietary equipment supply, and technical support to ensure the project’s successful execution. Wuhuan Engineering Co., Ltd. will oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) tasks for the complex, which includes ammonia production units and supplementary facilities.
TOYO has a proven history in the fertilizer industry, having supplied its urea technology for over 100 projects worldwide. In Africa, the company has notably constructed two urea plants for Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited in Nigeria, both with a 4,000 tons per day capacity, completed in 2016 and 2021. Furthermore, TOYO is engaged in a third similar project in Nigeria, reinforcing its influence in Africa’s fertilizer market.
