Six more Jamaicans have joined the Grand Slam Track league, including Olympic champion Hansle Parchment and World 100m hurdles champion Danielle Williams. The league, founded by Michael Johnson, will debut in Kingston from April 4-6 at the National Stadium, featuring 48 competitors in total, including those already announced.
In a recent announcement, six more Jamaican athletes have officially joined the Grand Slam Track, a new professional track and field league initiated by former Olympic champion Michael Johnson. Among them is Hansle Parchment, the champion of the 110 meters hurdles from the Tokyo Olympics. The inaugural meet of the league is scheduled to occur in Kingston from April 4-6 at the National Stadium.
The six new athletes consist of three men: Hansle Parchment, Orlando Bennett, a fellow sprint hurdler, and Malik James-King, a 400m hurdles specialist. The three women joining are World 100m hurdles champion Danielle Williams, Shiann Salmon, a finalist in the 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympic Games, and Alana Reid, the World Under-20 100m champion who also competed in the 4x100m relay final at last year’s Paris Olympics.
These six join four previously announced Jamaican competitors, totaling 48 athletes invited to the series. The additional athletes include 400m hurdler Roshawn Clarke, 100m sprinter Oblique Seville, 100m sprint hurdler Ackera Nugent, and 400m specialist Nickisha Pryce.
The addition of six new Jamaican athletes, including Olympic champions and emerging talents, signifies the growing competitiveness of the Grand Slam Track league. With the inaugural meet set for early April in Kingston, the event promises to showcase some of the best track and field talents. The participation of these athletes highlights Jamaica’s strong presence in international athletics.
