The Senegalese branch of Transparency International, through the Civil Forum, announced that Senegal has improved its Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score, rising two points from 43 to 45 out of 100. Although this increase indicates progress, Senegal continues to be categorized in the ‘red zone’ of countries struggling with high corruption levels.
A statement from the Civil Forum attributed this modest improvement to various reforms. Key measures included amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure that established a national financial prosecutor’s office and the adoption of a bill modifying the National Anti-Corruption Office (OFNAC) law.
Additionally, Senegal’s progress was aided by updated legislation regarding the declaration of assets and bills aimed at combating money laundering and financing terrorism. The organization highlighted significant developments such as effective operation of the Financial Judicial Pool and the publication of reports by the Court of Auditors.
