The State of Qatar commended the new Syrian administration for its positive initiatives aimed at civilian safety, state stability, public service continuity, and basic needs fulfillment for the Syrian populace. Qatar’s support extends to restructuring efforts that foster unity and collaboration among Syrian parties, contributing to civil peace and governance stability.
During a UN Security Council briefing in New York, HE Permanent Representative of Qatar, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, expressed pride in Qatar’s longstanding support for the Syrian people. She emphasized Qatar’s commitment to their demands for dignity, freedom, and justice.
Her Excellency highlighted a renewed governmental relationship, as showcased by Qatar’s Amir’s visit to Syria, marking it a historic first since the administration’s transformation. During the visit, he congratulated President Ahmed Al-Sharaa on the transitional presidency while underscoring Qatar’s dedication to Syria’s unity and sovereignty.
The official emphasized the importance of establishing a unified national army, asserting state control over arms to secure Syria’s independence and territorial integrity. Furthermore, Qatar aims to fulfill its humanitarian responsibilities, recently facilitating 13 military flights carrying aid and launching “Al Amal City” for displaced individuals in partnership with Turkiye.
She called for increased international support to improve the humanitarian crisis outcome and for the lifting of sanctions that harm the Syrian people, given their outdated justifications.
Concluding her remarks, Her Excellency condemned Israeli actions in the buffer zone with Syria, viewing them as a threat to Syria’s sovereignty. She stated that these actions represent a severe escalation and urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law.
