Webb Fontaine is driving a significant digital transformation in Benin’s customs operations, replacing the ASYCUDAWorld system with Webb Customs across the majority of customs offices. The project has already generated over 30 billion CFA francs and plans to fully integrate by mid-2025. This initiative highlights how AI and technology can enhance efficiency and compliance in customs operations.

Webb Fontaine has made significant strides in digitizing customs processes in Benin. This transformation was showcased at the 15th Public Finance Review Meeting in Cotonou, led by Mr. Alban Bienvenu BESSAN from the Ministry of Finance. The initiative reflects collaboration among stakeholders to enhance customs functionality through digital technologies.

Initiated in July 2022, the Webb Customs project has seen remarkable progress, with 44 out of 49 customs offices transitioning from the ASYCUDAWorld system. So far, it has generated over 30 billion CFA francs in revenue and facilitated more than 100,000 receipt issuances. The remaining five offices, which are crucial for revenue generation, are set to migrate by mid-2025, promising further improvements.

This partnership between Benin’s government and Webb Fontaine exemplifies how technology can modernize customs operations, improving efficiency and compliance. Alioune Ciss, CEO of Webb Fontaine Group, highlighted their commitment to utilizing AI technologies to enhance customs security and facilitate information exchange across the global supply chain.

Webb Customs features an AI-enabled Customs Management System that integrates various trade platforms, leading to an efficient cargo clearance process. This digital advancement minimizes clearance duration, mitigates corruption, and fosters a paperless customs environment, benefiting both trade authorities and businesses.

The company has outlined future objectives in Benin aimed at further integrating technology into customs systems. These goals include emphasizing research and development and forming strategic partnerships to continue improving trade operations and customs efficiency.

The advancements in Benin’s customs operations through the Webb Customs project underline the value of digital transformation in enhancing efficiency, security, and revenue collection. As the project progresses, it promises to deliver greater improvements and establishes a framework for future innovations in trade facilitation. Webb Fontaine’s commitment to modernization highlights the role of technology in transforming governmental operations in the trade sector.
