Iran Proposes OIC Emergency Meeting on Gaza Displacement Amid U.S. Plans

Iran has proposed an OIC emergency session in March to discuss the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, gaining support from several nations. Abbas Araghchi condemned U.S.-Israeli plans to forcibly displace Gazans, urging collective action from Islamic nations to protect Palestinian identity and rights. Concerns over Trump’s statements about ‘owning’ Gaza further fuel backlash against these policies.

TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has proposed an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. This proposal has reportedly garnered substantial backing and is anticipated to take place in early March, following diplomatic outreach by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Araghchi’s consultations involved various countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey, aimed at forming a unified response against contentious plans by the U.S. and Israel to relocate Gaza’s population. These proposed plans have met with strong disapproval from Araghchi, who believes they threaten Palestinian identity.

He condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s suggestion of establishing a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, deeming it a serious threat to regional stability. Araghchi emphasized that this plan is part of a broader effort to erase Palestinian identity, calling for urgent measures from the OIC to counter Israeli policies.

In a conversation with OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Araghchi stressed the need for the organization to convene promptly to protect Palestinian rights. Additionally, recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding U.S. plans for Gaza have provoked considerable international backlash, as they imply the forced removal of Gazans.

Trump’s proposal to manage Gaza as a tourism center and his commitment to “own” the territory have been interpreted as facilitating further displacement. This has led to widespread condemnation from rights groups who argue such plans support Israeli actions that equate to genocide against Palestinians.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry is advocating for an OIC emergency meeting to address the crisis in Gaza amid concerns over proposed displacements. Diplomatic efforts led by Abbas Araghchi reflect a significant push for Muslim-majority nations to oppose Israeli policies. As stated, decisive actions are needed to uphold Palestinian rights against ongoing threats, particularly in light of controversial U.S. policy proposals.
