On February 12, 2025, Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister Gedion Timothewos hosted a dinner reception at the newly established Addis International Convention Centre for attendees of the 46th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Executive Council. The event highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, and unity across Africa amidst dynamic global geopolitical contexts.
During the reception, President Taye Atske Selassie emphasized the necessity for African nations to collaborate and make significant advancements in addressing issues crucial to the continent’s peace and stability. He reiterated Ethiopia’s dedication to realizing a self-reliant and stable Africa.
Minister Gedion focused on the theme of this year’s session: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.” He underscored the importance of multilateral efforts for Africa and the Global South, particularly in tackling pressing global issues such as climate change and pandemics.
Gedion also stressed the need for enhanced collective institutional capacities to improve mediation and conflict prevention strategies, in line with the Pan-African principle of “African Solutions to African Challenges.” The dinner was attended by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, along with several foreign ministers.
