Overall revenue from the data protection sector reached N12 billion in 2024, an increase from N6.2 billion the year before. The number of companies submitting compliance audit reports also grew, from 3,451 in 2023 to 4,691 in 2024, showcasing heightened industry engagement and compliance.
Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of the NDPC, expressed pride in Nigeria’s advancements in data protection since the commission’s inception in 2023. He noted that this growth aligns with the federal government’s objectives and the Strategic Roadmap for Data Protection, outlined in the national plan for 2023-2027.
Olatunji emphasized the NDPC’s commitment to holding data controllers and processors accountable under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act). He reassured citizens of the enhanced safeguarding of personal data and stressed the importance of rights related to data privacy and consent in the commission’s operations.
At the signing of the Nigeria Data Protection Bill into law in June 2023, Dr. Olatunji mentioned that the sector had already contributed N5.5 billion to Nigeria’s GDP. With ongoing growth, projections suggest the sector could potentially create over 500,000 jobs in the future, highlighting the extensive career opportunities available in data protection.
