Manganese Metal Company in Mpumalanga has signed a 20-year energy supply contract with Noa Group to secure renewable energy for its operations, utilizing the Eskom grid for electricity distribution from multiple generation sites in South Africa.
Manganese Metal Company (MMC), located in Mpumalanga, has established a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Noa Group, an independent power producer (IPP) and electricity trading company. This agreement aims to ensure a significant portion of MMC’s energy supply will be generated from renewable sources. Noa Group will facilitate energy procurement from various generation facilities throughout South Africa, utilizing wheeling through the Eskom electricity grid to deliver power effectively.
The transition to renewable energy sources is becoming increasingly vital in South Africa’s energy landscape, especially for heavy industrial users like MMC. Wheeling, a practice where electricity generated at one point is transmitted to another location, allows firms to access power from diverse sources without the need for local generation facilities. This agreement is pivotal for enhancing energy sustainability and providing reliable power supply to MMC’s operations.
The partnership between MMC and Noa Group signifies an important step in integrating renewable energy into South Africa’s industrial sector. By securing a long-term supply of green energy, MMC aims to bolster its sustainability efforts and operational efficiency. Such agreements may serve as a model for other industries looking to reduce their carbon footprint and align with national energy goals.
