Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty is scheduled to visit Türkiye on Tuesday, as reported by diplomatic sources. During his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara, the two ministers will explore all aspects of their bilateral relationship and plan for an upcoming Türkiye-Egypt High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting next year.
Discussions will cover pressing regional issues, including the situations in Gaza, Syria, Libya, the Horn of Africa, and the Sahel. Both officials aim to strengthen bilateral relations in anticipation of the 2025 centenary of diplomatic ties between Türkiye and Egypt.
Emphasis will also be placed on enhancing investments to achieve a $15 billion trade goal and addressing humanitarian efforts in Gaza, promoting Palestinian governance, and advocating for a two-state solution. Fidan will reaffirm Türkiye’s commitment to ongoing humanitarian assistance to Gaza during their discussions.
The need for a stable and prosperous Syria will also be highlighted, along with the importance of partnerships with its new administration. Counter-terrorism efforts, particularly against the PKK, YPG, and ISIS (Daesh), will be a focal point in ensuring regional stability and collaboration between Ankara and Cairo.
Fidan previously visited Cairo in December for a D-8 foreign ministers’ meeting, where he spoke with Abdelatty. Their last meeting occurred on January 12 in Riyadh, coinciding with discussions on Syria.
The upcoming visit of Egyptian FM Badr Abdelatty underscores the efforts to boost bilateral relations between Egypt and Türkiye, especially as they approach the milestone of 100 years of diplomatic ties in 2025. The two nations are focusing on strategic cooperation in the face of various regional challenges, including conflicts in Gaza and Syria. This meeting will also forge pathways towards greater economic collaboration with ambitious trade targets.
The scheduled meeting between Fidan and Abdelatty presents an opportunity to bolster Türkiye-Egypt relations in multiple areas including trade, humanitarian efforts, and regional security. With an emphasis on counter-terrorism and stability in Syria, both countries are poised to take significant steps in fostering cooperation through various initiatives ahead of their 2025 diplomatic centennial.
