Operatives of the Nigerian Navy, Ahead Operation Base, Ibaka, in Akwa Ibom have arrested two suspects and seized their wood boat loaded with 5,100 liters of petrol.
The Base Commander, Navy Captain Uche Aneke, on Sunday handed over the suspects, boat and petrol to the Nigeria Safety and Civil Protection Corps in Ibaka.
Aneke mentioned a Navy patrol crew arrested the suspects on February 22 following an intelligence report on suspected smuggling actions within the space.
“Patrolling naval gunboats had been deployed to intercept the wood boat.
“Contained in the boat had been the 2 suspected smugglers and 5,100 liters of gasoline hidden beneath luggage of yams, cartons of drinks, different drinks and several other bins of ground tiles, all coated with tarpaulin,” he mentioned.
