Males of the Nigerian Navy Jubilee in Ikot Abasi Native Authorities Space of Akwa Ibom State have arrested ten suspects and seized a vessel containing a petroleum product suspected to be crude oil within the state.
The Commander of NNS Jubilee in Ikot Abasi, Commodore Madumom Ide, disclosed this to journalists on Friday in Ibaka in Mbo Native Authorities Space of the state, noting that the seized vessel was named Motor Tanker Queen Hansal.
Nevertheless, he added that the suspects and the vessel have been arrested on December 28, 2023.
Ide mentioned: “Ten suspects have been arrested, all Nigerians, one captain and 9 crew members on the ship. The ship because it stands now has a capability of 1,022 tonnes (and) interprets into over 7,000 barrels of oil, which is over N800 million.
“Think about what that quantity will do for the group and the nation as a complete.”
He pressured that the Nigerian Navy is dedicated to defending the maritime house and warned prison parts concerned in financial sabotage to desist or face arrest.
He mentioned the suspects, the crude oil and the ship can be handed over to the Financial and Monetary Crimes Fee for additional investigation and prosecution.
