The indigenous folks of Biafra on Thursday rejected the additional trial of its chief, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The group mentioned it relied on the October 13, 2022 judgment of the Courtroom of Attraction in Abuja, which discharged and acquitted Kanu of all costs leveled towards him by the Federal Authorities.
The PUNCH stories that Kanu has been within the custody of the Ministry of International Affairs since 2021, following his arrest in Kenya and repatriation to Nigeria.
The Supreme Courtroom on December 15, 2023 authorised his trial on the terrorism costs introduced towards him by the federal authorities and despatched the case again to the Supreme Courtroom, which was set for February 8, 2024, to listen to the case.
Nonetheless, the FG didn’t seem in courtroom, forcing the case to be postponed.
In a press release on Thursday, IPOB spokesperson, Emma Highly effective mentioned: “Sadly, the identical Federal Authorities that’s prosecuting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu refuses to seem on the similar Abuja Excessive Courtroom listening to on February 8, 2024.
“The refusal of the Federal Authorities to seem in courtroom on that day for continuation of their trial is obvious that they haven’t any case towards Kanu.
“We stand by the judgment of the Courtroom of Attraction, which ordered that our chief, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, shouldn’t be tried once more in a Nigerian courtroom. The Supreme Courtroom judges agreed with them, however lacked the braveness and integrity to uphold the Courtroom of Attraction's judgment.
“The IPOB management has assessed the actions of the Federal Authorities and the Judiciary and utterly rejected additional trial of our chief on the Supreme Courtroom. They know very effectively that they haven’t any case towards him.
