The Chairman of the Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has urged the newly sworn-in Resident Electoral Commissioner, Etekamba Umore, to stay impartial whereas discharging his duties.
The Nationwide Commissioner and Chairman of the Info and Voter Training Committee, INEC, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a press release on Tuesday.
The Senate had in November 2023 accredited the appointment of 10 nominees of President Bola Tinubu as RECs.
The appointment adopted Tinubu's request for affirmation of the appointment of the RECs to INEC by means of the provisions of Part 154 (1) of the Structure.
Mahmood sworn in 9 of the RECs on December 12, 2023, noting that the tenth REC candidate could be sworn in in January upon the expiry of the time period of the REC representing Akwa Ibom State.
In response to Tuesday's assertion, Umoren was deployed to Delta State following the expiry of the time period of the final workplace holder on January 29, 2024.
The assertion learn: “The committee held its common weekly assembly in the present day, Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
“The assembly was preceded by the swearing-in of Mr. Etekamba Udo Umoren, as Resident Electoral Commissioner and deployed to Delta State upon the expiry of the time period of the final holder of the workplace yesterday, Monday, January 29, 2024.
“The Chairman of the Committee, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, urged the brand new REC to strictly adhere to his oath of workplace which requires neutrality and impartiality within the discharge of his duties.
“He additionally directed the brand new REC to stick to the fee's Code of Conduct and maintain common consultations with stakeholders.”
Umoren is a local of Akwa Ibom State and holds a bachelor's diploma in Geography from the College of Benin.
He held varied positions within the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service and rose to the place of Everlasting Secretary.
