Walt Disney Animation Studios and pan-African leisure firm Kugali are proud to announce the upcoming launch of the unique six-part animated sequence “Iwájú,” streaming completely on Disney+ starting February 28, 2024. A sneak peek with charming visuals is now out there to viewers.
Whereas the sequence will debut within the US on February 28, launch particulars for different areas together with Nigeria can be revealed quickly.
Set in futuristic Lagos, Nigeria, 'Iwájú' presents a gripping coming-of-age story that follows Tola, a younger woman from the prosperous island, and her greatest buddy Kole, a self-taught tech knowledgeable. Collectively they unravel the secrets and techniques and risks hidden of their completely different worlds.
With director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, manufacturing designer Hamid Ibrahim and cultural advisor Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku on the helm, Kugali filmmakers transport audiences to the colourful world of 'Iwájú', filled with distinctive visible components and technological developments impressed by the spirit of Lagos. Produced by Disney Animation's Christina Chen with a screenplay by Adeola and Halima Hudson, the sequence includes a stellar voice solid together with Simisola Gbadamosi, Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Department, Siji Soetan and Weruche Opia.
Adeola mentioned: “Writing the story of 'Iwájú' has been a journey of artistic alchemy, combining Lagos' wealthy cultural heritage with imaginative leaps into the long run. Working with my co-founders at Kugali and the visionary artists at Walt Disney Animation Studios was nothing wanting magical. The heartbeat of my hometown resonates in each scene, and I’m thrilled for the world to expertise this distinctive fusion of custom and futurism.”
Along with the sequence, “Iwájú: A Day Forward,” a documentary particular filmed on three continents, will debut on February 28. This documentary tells the inspiring story of Kugali's founders, who turned their goals into actuality by creating an authentic animated sequence with Walt Disney Animation Studios. Directed by Megan Harding and govt produced by Amy Astley and Beth Hoppe, the documentary reveals that something is feasible when expertise meets alternative.
