A Nigerian lady, Abigail Marshall Katung, has been elected Mayor of Leeds in the UK.
The Labor and Co-operative Social gathering councilor grew up in Nigeria earlier than shifting to Britain to proceed her research on the College of Leeds.
She wrote on social media: “It’s with nice satisfaction that my household and I stay up for taking over the duty of serving.”
Commenting on the brand new political place, Marshall wrote on her X-page: “I’m deeply honored and humbled to have been chosen to function the subsequent Mayor of Leeds for the 2024/25 time period.
“Our metropolis is a shining instance of compassion, resilience and unity, and it’s with nice satisfaction that my household and I stay up for taking over the duty of serving you.”
BBC reviews that Katung is governor of Leeds Metropolis School, who congratulated her on her new place.
The council stated: “We stay up for persevering with our work collectively to offer expertise and alternatives for individuals within the area.”
Marshall's mother and father are from Kaduna State.
The Mayor of Leeds is a ceremonial place held by a member of Leeds Metropolis Council, elected yearly by the council.
